For millions of people around the world, this holy month is an opportunity to renew and strengthen their faith through rigorous fasting, devoted prayer, thoughtful meditation, reading the Koran, and works of charity. These acts are closely aligned with the universal values that the Islamic faith promotes: peace, kindness, love and respect for others.
In the past few months, we have seen how important the power of prayer can be in difficult times. Today, as the holy month of Ramadan begins, I pray that those who observe this holy time will find comfort and consolation in their faith.
