India vs South Africa, 3rd Test: Records chasing Rohit Sharma
The last match of the three-Test series between India and South Africa is being played at JSCA Stadium in Ranchi. On Sunday, Ravindra Jadeja and Wriddhiman Saha are at the crease on the second day of the Test. Rohit hit his first double century of Test career. He scored 212 runs. Angidi caught Rohit off Rabada's ball. Earlier, Rahane was dismissed with his 11th career century.
He was caught by wicketkeeper Klassen by George Linde for 115 runs. Rahane shared a 267-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Rohit.
On the first day, India had lost the first three wickets for 39 runs. Mayank Agarwal (10), Cheteshwar Pujara (0) and Virat Kohli (12) returned to the pavilion. Both early wickets were taken by Kagiso Rabada. One wicket was taken by Enrich Nortje.
Rohit Sharma First Indian to score 500+ runs in series against Africa
Rohit became the first Indian to score the most 500+ runs in a series against South Africa. Before him former captain Mo. Azharuddin scored 388 runs in the domestic series in 1996–97. Rohit became the fifth Indian to score 500+ runs in any one Test series. Earlier, Veenu Mankad, Budhi Kundaran, Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag had done so.
Rohit Sharma hit the most sixes
Rohit became the highest batsman to hit 19 sixes in a Test series. He broke Shimron Hetmyer's record for the West Indies. Hetmyer had hit 15 sixes in the series against Bangladesh in 2018/19. Before Rohit, this record for India was in the name of Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan hit 14 sixes in the series against New Zealand in 2010/11.
Rohit Sharma hit his sixth career century
Rohit scored his sixth career and his third century of the series. Rahane completed his 21st half-century. Rohit-Rahane shared an unbeaten 185-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Earlier Virat Kohli was lbw by scoring 12 runs. He was dismissed by Enrich Nortze. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Mayank Agarwal for 10 runs and then Pujara for zero as the first wicket.
Rohit Sharma could not score a century abroad
Rohit became the second batsman to score the highest 100+ runs on home ground without scoring a single century abroad. He has so far scored all his six centuries in India. Mominul Haque of Bangladesh is at number one in this case. He scored eight centuries.
